Who will be wise?

¶ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Who were these wise men? How did they know from the star that is was the king of the Jews  being born? Why did they deem it important enough to travel for almost two years to come and worship him and bring him treasures as gifts?

In 2017 the Lord is still calling for whosever will to come and follow him. How sad it is that there are those who start to follow the “star” and can not even stay on track for 2 weeks yet alone 2 years to just worship him. To those that know him Jesus is the king of kings and the Lord of Lords , the most important thing in all the universe. He is worthy to be praised and worshiped and be given our best. No matter the cost or distance they will stay on track to one day see him and cast their crown at his feet. Too many bring to Jesus nothing  but rather desire the loaves and the fishes he offers. The wise men brought something with them all the distance they came to give the Lord. What they brought were not seconds or leftovers but the very best they had gold frankensence and myrrh ! Will we be wise and follow the wise men’s example of seeking the Lord till we find him? Will we be vocal about what we are seeking and trouble our cities as they did? Are we bringing our best to present to the Lord ? Are we worshipping the Lord when we are in his presence ? Will we be wise and take up our cross and deny ourselves and follow him in 2017? Let us consider these things this holiday season as things get very busy so we will not lose our focus.

Genesis 32:24-28 KJV[24] And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. [25] And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. [26] And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. [27] And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. [28] And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

Come and seek the face of the Lord and prevail in prayer as Jacob did. As someone aptly said much prayer much power ,little prayer little power ,no prayer no power! Prayer is the answer for us and our world, let us not just talk about prayer LET US PRAY!

Love to a point!

Mark 10:17 KJV[17] And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?…

[19] Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. [20] And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. [21] Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. [22] And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
This rich young ruler thought he had everything he needed to have eternal life. He came questioning Jesus with an assurance that all was well. But when the discourse was over he was walking away sad not committing to eternal riches but holding on to earthly treasures.

How true it rings of this generation,so eager to do  and receive but not fully submitted to the one who knows their uprisings and down sittings. Just take a look at so many Facebook accounts. One minute they are issuing fresh water and the next … Suggestive pictures, filthy language, unregenerate unsanctified post quotes and airing of dirty laundry for all to see!

What these 21st century rich young rulers are saying is I want the benefits but I don’t want to pay the price, I love you Lord but only to a certain point. When push comes to shove their commitment is only to a point as well . Church attendance is usually the first casualty  when prioritizing of time has to be done. They say the Lord knows their situation and when given time it will be straightened out. What they fail to realize there are people in the same situation and they are overcoming! They themselves however ,are only following him to a point. It is time to take inventory and see things as they really are. Peter thought he was going with his Lord the distance the night he was betrayed but with bitter tears realized he had only followed to a point. May we all be like the converted Peter ,following Jesus all the way the rest of his life and not to a point.

Prayer and fasting

28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

If you we’re not there Sunday night or did not pick a day Sunday night ,please post on AtAchurch fire starters which day(s) you are fasting and praying. If you are a saint of God at AtAchurch you are required to participate in this Christian discipline for revival! If you cannot fast because of medical reasons you can still pray!

Happy Mother’s Day 2016

Of all the God given rolls in life, motherhood is in the top of importance. A mother’s unselfish unconditional love and nurturing I feel is just what the Lord had in mind when he structured the family. When we look throughout history we see mothers willing to sacrifice and do without so their children could survive and thrive. The hours are long and the reward seems a ways off ,but keep perservering mothers ,reaping day is coming and your children will rise up and call you blessed! Don’t succumb to this last day spirit of ” me-ism” and lovers of you own selves more than lovers of God! Being a chaste keeper at home far out weighs the materialism  and temporal success that this day has lifted to the pinnacle of importance! The old saying “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world ” is so true. Look at Moses and his mother jochebed. She only had a few of  his formative years to influence him but influence him she did!! When he came to years he refused to be called the son of pharoah’s daughter but rather chose to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. He was Gods choice to lead the people of  God out of bondage and into the promised land  This decision was a direct result of a mother’s nurturing influence.

Oh how important is motherhood! Not only can a mother influence for good but she can hinder, misdirect and confuse her children by her foolish and selfish desires. My heart goes out to those who did not have /do not have a good mother or a mother at all. Mother’s  day represents a painful reminder of something blessed that they have missed in life. The picture that is painted of all the good ,loving and sacrificing mother’s and their children’s honoring of them ,even after death is an arrow to the heart of those who have suffered  with immature, self centered and absent mothers . May I encourage you today ,the scripture records “when father and mother forsake you the Lord will take you up” ! He will be your mother and your father he will love you unconditionally and will never forsake you!

To the mothers that have shown their love by sacrifice and unselfish living and giving ,our respect goes to the stars for you and we truly thank you for showing what motherhood is all about!

I want to thank my wife Elizabeth Gray for being a real mother and grandmother to our children and grand children. I also want to thank Emma Butler for her example of motherhood and being a great mother in law and grandmother to our children.

Happy Mother’s Day to all
